World’s Highest Lake
Gurudongmar Lake, located in the district of North Sikkim, India is situated at an attitude of 17,800 ft. (5,430 m). It is just 5 kilometers away from border of China. To reach this lake, you can go by road from Lachen from Thangu.
Being at an altitude of 17000 ft., it is one of the highest lake in the world. This lake is considered to be blessed and is one of the highly religious spots in India.
The water of this lake is considered to have miraculous power. It is believed that this lake has the power to grant children to the couples who are sterile. Interestingly, this myth is not only believed by Hindus but also by local Buddhists.
This lake got its name derived from Guru Padmasambhava, who visited this area through Tibet. This area has been blessed by him and there is also a temple of the Guru by the lake. Tourists, Devotee and army personnel offer prayers here.
